Pick up and sell hay first, use the early goals to unlock better hand tools, then research conveyors and power. Keep the line simple until every machine reliably moves hay toward the sell point.
Getting Started
What the Steam demo is
Find The Needle is a first-person incremental automation game for Windows PC. The playable Steam demo starts you in a warehouse with a huge pile of hay, basic hand tools, and one objective: find the needles hidden inside the pile.
Hay is both the obstacle and the economy. Selling it pays for tools, research, conveyors, scanners, balers, robotic arms, and other machinery. The game gradually shifts from manual collection to factory design, so the best beginner plan is to improve the current bottleneck instead of buying every unlock immediately.
Your first 30 minutes
- Sell hay by hand. Learn the pickup, drop, and throw controls while keeping loose hay near the working area.
- Follow the current objective. Early objectives introduce licenses, tools, the tech tree, and building controls in a safer order than blind spending.
- Upgrade carrying before overbuilding. A larger handful or better tool reduces repeated trips and helps fund the first automation pieces.
- Place one readable conveyor route. Check the belt arrows and make sure the output moves toward the correct destination.
- Add power only when required. A generator must be fed and connected through the power system before powered machinery can run.
- Test one machine at a time. Confirm pickup, belt direction, power, and output before extending the line.
What to buy first
There is no verified universal “best build” for every demo version. A useful purchase is the one that fixes what is slowing you down now: carrying capacity for too many trips, a stronger hand tool for slow clearing, or a belt and machine upgrade for a backed-up line.
| Bottleneck | Practical response | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Too many sell trips | Improve carrying or use a better manual tool | Does the next objective require another unlock? |
| Hay stalls on a belt | Inspect direction, capacity, and output | Is a downstream machine slower than the belt? |
| Powered machine is idle | Trace generator, poles, and power demand | Is the generator being fed with hay? |
| Needles are hard to isolate | Use the metal detector, pinpointer, and scanners | Can processed hay bypass detection? |
Availability and FAQ
Is the Find The Needle demo free?
The Steam demo is free and was released on September 10, 2026. The full game is listed separately on Steam, but the final launch price has not been confirmed in the project’s approved sources. Searches for a “demo v15 price” do not match an official paid demo listing.
Is Find The Needle on PS5 or multiplayer?
The current Steam feature list identifies the demo as single-player. “Multiplayer” appears among user-defined tags, but that is not the same as an announced multiplayer feature. No verified PlayStation 5 version is listed, and save transfer from the demo to the full game has not been officially confirmed.
Troubleshooting
If the demo will not start or keeps crashing
Compare your system with the official Steam requirements before changing save data. The minimum lists Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, a dedicated GPU with Vulkan 1.3 support and 4 GB VRAM, and 2 GB of storage. Integrated graphics are explicitly listed as unsupported and may crash.
- Update the dedicated GPU driver and confirm the game is using that GPU.
- Verify the demo files through Steam before reinstalling.
- Close overlays and background tools if the game stops responding during loading.
- Lowering graphics settings may not solve a missing Vulkan feature or unsupported integrated GPU.
- Use the official Discord bug-report channel for repeatable demo bugs; include hardware and the point where loading stops.
Do not edit or replace save files as a first troubleshooting step. Back up any save before experimenting, and avoid third-party “cheat” downloads that are not distributed by the developer.
